Product Details

The Dowth watch honours the least well known of the three great tombs of Brú na Bóinne. Although this site is as large as Newgrange and Knowth it has not been excavated in recent times. Like the other monuments it was built over 5,000 years ago, however, the structure at Dowth is thought to pre-date both Newgrange and Knowth.

Dowth (Dubhach) is known as the dark place and this is reflected in the finishing for the two part stainless steel watch case, crown and buckle – a combination radial brushed and polished finish with an ion-plated black treatment.

Dowth has two known passages, one on the southwestern side and another is aligned with the setting sun on the winter solstice. Therefore, like Newgrange, Dowth marks the winter solstice but at sunset rather than sunrise. The movement rings on Dowth watches are engraved with the words: ‘A PROMISE OF SUMMER IN THE DEPTHS OF WINTER’, a reference to the winter solstice and that despite the coldness of winter months there will be warmer days ahead.
