The Eternal Cycles of Nature. Newgrange Moon Pha The Eternal Cycles of Nature. Newgrange Moon Phase model captures the essence of one of the world's oldest timekeepers. The 5,000-year-old Neolithic structure at Newgrange is not just a passage tomb but a celestial calendar meticulously aligned to the winter solstice. The Newgrange watch bezel draws directly from the side elevation of Newgrange, echoing its timeless circular form. Just as the monument has stood the test of millennia, the Newgrange model embodies durability with a two-part stainless-steel case with sapphire crystals front and rear. It's a contemporary timepiece that connects you to the past and, perhaps, to the places you love and the people in your life that matter most.
A Concept of Time Towards Brighter Days and Short A Concept of Time Towards Brighter Days and Shorter Shadows. The transition from the mobile lifestyle of the hunter gatherer to the fixed location lifestyle of the earliest farming communities brought with it the need for a better concept of time. The keeping livestock and farming crops required better knowledge of specific times of the year. These early communities recognised that as the sun approaches the summer solstice, the evenings remain brighter, and the rising and setting points of the sun are furthest to the north on the horizon. Conversely, at the winter solstice, the evenings would draw in much earlier, and the sunrise and sunset are at their most southerly point on the horizon. Year upon year, the Neolithic used standing stones to mark these points on the horizon. The pinnacle of this timekeeping technology was the building of the tumuli at Brú na Bóinne in Ireland. Our watches celebrate the origins of horology and the marking of time in Ireland for over five millennia. Each watch honours the megalithic structures found at Brú na Bóinne, an area defined by a bend in the River Boyne, where the earliest farming communities built vast stone monuments, like Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, to mark and record the sidereal year.  You’ll find the optimistic phrase, ‘Towards brighter days and shorter shadows’, engraved on the movement ring of every Newgrange Moon Phase and Date Time watch we build. Five thousand years later, we still wish for those brighter warmer days ahead.
Sword of Light In Irish, the Winter Solstice is Sword of Light In Irish, the Winter Solstice is "An Grianstad," literally translating as "the sun stop." The Neolithic people who built the vast monuments at Brú na Bóinne were fascinated with the sun’s intercourse with the earth. The inner chamber of Newgrange, built over 5,200 years ago, experiences a captivating phenomenon during the winter solstice known as the 'Sword of Light'. At the winter solstice sunrise, a beam of bright sunlight pierces through the faint ambient light within the passage and inner chamber. It was a real treat to meet Xavier de Roquemaural, It was a real treat to meet Xavier de Roquemaural, CEO of Czapek Watches, at Windup Watch Fair NYC on Sunday afternoon. I love Czapek watches, and I have fond memories of meeting Xavier at Salon QP in November 2015 when he presented their very first prototype. Sheepishly, I plucked up enough courage to show Xavier the first prototype I'd made of our Newgrange watch. He was kind and supportive in his feedback, but as we all know, he's an absolute gentleman within horological circles. Since 2015, I've continued to follow Czapek's success and the beautifully designed and crafted watches they produce. I'm overjoyed to see their fifth collection, the Promenade and, in particular, their Promenade Goutte D'eau. What a pleasure to see an example of the Promenade Goutte D'eau 'in the wild'. Today, pretty much like yesterday, was a wonderful opportunity to meet watch enthusiasts and watch afficionado from the New York area and beyond. We were excited to meet so many enthusiasts and share our watchmaking journey. Tomorrow, Sunday the 20th October is the last opportunity to catch 144 brands across two floors at Center415 on 5th Avenue.
