Watches of Newgrange
Towards longer days and shorter shadows.
Newgrange watches are inspired by the Neolithic structures and mythology surrounding Newgrange, the most famous tumulus within the Brú na Bóinne complex. The tumulus is orientated towards the position of rising sun at the winter solstice and is one of the oldest megalithic structures known to have an astronomical function.
In Celtic mythology, Newgrange (or Sí An Bhrú as it was once known) was the home to the greatest of the Celtic gods, the Dagda Mór, a god associated with fertility, manliness and strength and one that had the capacity to control and influence time and the seasons.
The side elevation of the tumulus at Newgrange is evident in the form factor of the two part stainless steel watch case designed by Bryan Leech, co-founder of Sidereus Watches. The Newgrange watch has been designed to honour our ancestors’ contribution to the art and science of horology and, in turn, the marking of time in Ireland for over 5,000 years.
The movement ring on the Newgrange models is engraved with the phrase: ‘Towards longer days and shorter shadows’, an optimistic outlook to carry on your wrist. The Design Journey

Newgrange – Moon Phase
In astronomy, a moon phase refers to a portion of the Moon that is illuminated by the Sun and is visible from Earth. Lunation is the period of the moon’s synodic revolution, from the time of the new moon to the next new moon and this corresponds to 29 days and 12 hours.
On Newgrange Moon Phase models the lunation and phases of the moon are displayed by a modified moon phase disc featuring a rhodium-plated moon and a scattering of Sidereus stars. The disc is driven by a 59-toothed wheel and is accurate to one day out in every 2 years, 7 months and 22 days.
The Moon Phase model shares the characteristic side elevation and two part stainless steel case construction and movement ring of the Newgrange Date/Time model.
Modified Swiss Made automatic movements with custom moon phase disc, rotors and elaboré levels of finishing are hand regulated and tested by our master watchmaker.
Proprietary hands include tapered semi-skeletonised baton-style hour and minute hands and a distinctive orange centre second hand with cruciform detail on the counterpoise.
A sapphire crystal case back provides a clear view of the movement ring and the fascinating rotations and oscillations of the minute working parts of the modified SW280-1 movement.
Stepped dial with radial lines and luminous markers. Dial colours are either Quartz White, Zenith Blue or Midnight Blue.
Calf leather strap complete with proprietary stainless steel pin buckle with a fully polished finish or a combination brushed finish with a contrasting sidereus star logo in a polished finish. Additional standard or premium grade straps can also be purchased. Strap Information
A screw-down crown ensures the watch is waterproof to 5 ATM.
